Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine, Buraguis, Legaspi City

Located atop the Buraguis Hill overlooking the city proper, the Chapel of the Our Lady of Guadalupe was built to serve as sanctuary for troubled souls and haven of peace and reconciliation for distressed couples (Marker outside the Chapel). Buraguis Hill also features life-size images of the characters of the Way of the Cross stations arranged within the hill slopes. And at the hilltop stood a 20-feet image of the Blessed Virgin Mary overlooking the city proper.

The feast day is celebrated every 12th day of December in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

A mini museum is also located within the compound.

KAWAKAWA PARK

Its a week before the Holy Week. And if you're looking for some place to visit a place where you can enjoy and at the same time reflect on Jesus' Passion, then I suggest you visit Kawakawa Natural Park at the Divine Mercy Shrine and Oratory, Ligao City, Albay.

Its a two-hour drive, more or less, from Naga City and just a few minutes drive from Ligao City proper.

Kawa-kawa Hill and Natural Park has now become an eco-tourism destination on top of the list of nature lovers and trekking enthusiasts across the region. Dubbed, as “hill, without a hilltop,” Kawa-kawa became famous because of its hollowed top that resembles a giant cauldron, which is actually the English term for kawa.

Sweat and a little leg or back pain will be all worth it when one reaches the top. The breathtaking view of Mayon Volcano plus a top view of the City and its nearby towns are like sweet rewards for a thirty-minute tiring trek. Aside from the view, additional amenities were recently installed for the visitors to enjoy. There are benches perfect for picnics and small family gatherings. And for a complete ecotourism experience, one can visit the newly installed butterfly haven, bird houses, and animal sanctuaries.

Kawa-kawa Hill and Natural Park is also a reflection of the residents’ religiousity. Visitors, old and young alike, endure the trek, for they consider it as a religious rite. On the way to the top, there are life-sized sculptures that represent the Way of the Cross culminating at the top where Jesus is crucified. Religious activities during Lenten Season, Christmas, Three Kings and others are also being held in Kawa-kawa Hill, which has become an annual tradition for the residents of Ligao.

During summertime, the Park also serves as venue for summer camps and scouting activities, wherein obstacle courses are built right at the middle of the hallowed top. (source: http://ligaocity.org/tourism.html)

Fair warning, if you easily get tired of walking, then I suggest you better prepare yourself when you visit the Park because its approximately 1 kilometer walk both uphill and around the basin-like mountain.
